Real Estate Open Houses - What is Right For You?
November 1, 2007 6:35 pm Lake Murray, Richland, ballentine, blythewood, chapin, columbia, home, home owner, housing market, irmo, lexington, open house, prices, real estate, realtor, selling, south carolinaAs home sellers across the nation are experiencing the slowdown of the real estate market generally, I am getting a lot of questions regarding open houses. “What will work to sell my current home in another state?” they say. Well, what works in Columbia, South Carolina may not be appropriate for another part of the country.
I have heard that public open houses (open to the general public) in varying markets throughout New Jersey are all the rage. Some start on Thursday and Friday evening and continue all day Saturday and Sunday. After speaking with agents in Charlotte, North Carolina, I have found that agent open houses (those only open to real estate agents during the week) do not work at all. The city is simply too spread out to draw the crowd needed to support it.
Open houses should be part of your Realtor’s marketing plan. Be certain to ask them if they will be utilizing an open house to sell your property and when. If they do not have answers regarding what works (and what doesn’t work) in your market, you should interview another agent to sell your home.
