How to Save Some Serious Money from the South Carolina State Energy Office

It sits idly by, waiting for us to ask for hot water. As it waits for hours and sometimes days, it must keep the water hot inside. That process of heating eats up wattage and we pay for it in our power bills. However, there is a solution for this “energy hog”.
The South Carolina State Energy Office has a Residential Solar Initiative to encourage those constructing new homes to get a solar water heating system. If a buyer selects an approved EarthCraft Home with a solar water heating system, their builder can get a $1,000 rebate from the State Energy Office. The builder will submit an application, install the water heater, installation is verified and the home builder will get a $1,000 check.
But what’s in it for you, the home buyer? How about lower energy bills? For the life of the solar water heater, you won’t be paying for the energy used to keep your water hot. The sun’s energy will keep the heater running with it’s FREE energy! Now, that’s smart!
