THINGS TO DO: FREE Concert by the South Carolina Philharmonic in Downtown Columbia!
October 20, 2008 6:57 am activity, columbia, event, fun, things to do
It’s time to meet Morihiko, folks. He’s our new conductor for the South Carolina Philharmonic, starting in fall 2008. To introduce him to the community, there will be a free concert featuring Handel, Maurer and even some ragtime music on Tuesday, October 21, 2008.
To attend, head to Citizens Bank Plaza at the intersection of Main and Lady Streets. The concert will be outdoors, held from noon until 1 p.m. It is sure to please!
The Philharmonic is playing a “Where’s Waldo?” game with Morihiko – who knows, you might be sitting right next to him during the show. He will be in attendance, but not as Conductor.
If you like what you hear, then be sure to get tickets for Saturday’s show at the Koger Center. There will be two pre-concert talks with Morihiko (one at 6:30 and the other at 6:50 p.m.). Saturday’s concert will feature Johannes Brahams’ First Symphony from 1876 and Dand Visconti’s “Black Bend”. Tickets are $12-42 and there is a half-price discount for students and military (selected seats only).
