This subject just gives me the heebie jeebies, but it’s something we must discuss. If you find yourself with large brown patches of easy to remove grass, you could have a grub infestation. The icky grub larvae turns into the May Beetle or also known as June Bug that uses your plants as a place to snack in the spring.
What can you do to battle these offending pests? The traditional method is to treat your entire lawn and plant beds with grub killer in the fall (Late August-September) when the larvae are small and cannot fight off the pesticide. According to this Bayer Chemical video, they now have a grub killer that can be applied as the May Beetles/June Bugs are starting to take flight. So, if you’ve missed the fall application, you still have time!
